Do you wake up feeling tired? Don’t just accept that it’s normal…it could be a sign of Sleep Apnoea.
Sleep apnoea, or obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), happens when a person’s upper airways close off, either partly or fully, while they sleep. These obstructions, or apnoeas can happen several times per hour, leading to lowered oxygen levels in the blood. You may be unaware that you have these pauses in breathing, but the person with sleep apnoea will often wake unrefreshed.
The most common symptoms of Sleep Apnoea are:
- Falling asleep during routine activities
- Early morning headaches
- Daytime Sleepiness
- Poor Concentration
- Going to the toilet overnight
- Choking or gasping for air while sleeping
Sleep Apnoea, when untreated, increases the risk of other conditions, including: High Blood Pressure; Heart Attack; Type 2 Diabetes; Heart Failure; Stroke and Depression. A person with Sleep Apnoea is also 7 times more likely to have a car accident.
